Tyros

Tyros inhabited since prehistoric times, was one of the ports in ancient Sparta. Debris ancient cyclopean walls and settlements which lie above the current port in the top of the hill Castle, while other archaeological finds now housed in museums in Sparta, Tripoli, Astros, Benaki Museum and the Louvre museum.

Tyros has taken its name from the temple of Apollo Tyriti (ΑΠΕΛΛΟΝΙΤΥΡΙΤΑ)), the local goddess worshiped in the ruins of the temple area where we meet today the chapel of Prophet Elias southwest of the town.

Labeled as traditional Tyros, belongs to historical Tsakonia, where you can hear Tsakonian dialect  even today, find the famous tsakonian costumes and textiles, watch Tsakonians dances, or just simply calm in the unique combination of mountain and sea.
